DELLA Silk Collar Capelet
From the Hall of Wonders Workroom:
A giant collar (or capelet, whichever you prefer) crafted from breathtaking, 1950's ombré silk organza in sherbet shades of pale pink, peach and yellow. Before it was gathered and doubled over, it was a full circle the size of a dining room table - like a donut made from four separate pieces (joined by pinked seams). Fabric was salvaged from a 1950's bubble dress. Invisible "collar" is backed in bias tape made of the same fabric and hand-finished. Hook and eye closure at the back (although this piece can be worn frontwards or backwards).
The fabric has taken on a beautiful mellow patina with variations throughout. It is generally very sturdy, but there are small splits in some areas, especially near the collar, where the original gathers were - typical of this type of fabric when it has been stored flat for a long time. One longer split near the back opening has been hand-repaired. Two dark marks to the fabric have been tacked into the folds as to make them invisible to the eye. This piece was specifically designed as a collar so that it would be wearable without fear of movement. I couldn't let the beautiful fabric go to waste, but it's priced accordingly.
